How to Change Your Label Orientation by Rotating Text and Images

If you’d like to change the direction of the text and images on your label template, here are the steps to further customize your prints. This tutorial uses Microsoft Word as an example, but the concepts apply across all programs.

Please note that we do not suggest changing the orientation of the page from portrait to landscape as this can cause severe misalignments. Rather, we recommend rotating your text and images as you edit so that when you print your sheet, you’re able to peel the sticker off and place it in any position.

Rotating Text Orientation

Step One: Type Your Text

  1. If you’re having trouble selecting the text box underneath the label shape, you can select all shapes by holding Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) and right click > Send to Back > Send Behind Text.
  2. You can also press Del to delete the outlines, leaving you with the dashed line of the template beneath.

Step Two: Rotate Your Text

  1. Highlight your text and select Table Layout > Text Direction. Keep clicking Text Direction until you have the orientation you’re trying to achieve.

Rotating Image Orientation

Step One: Add Your Image

  1. Select all shapes by holding the Ctrl key (Windows) or Cmd key (Mac) and pressing the Del key to delete the outlines, leaving you with the dashed line of the template beneath.
  2. Click Insert > Pictures > Picture from File and select your image file.

Step Two: Rotate Your Image

  1. Select your image and find the clockwise-spinning arrow icon branching off the top of the selection outline. Click and drag this icon to rotate the image in any direction; you’ll notice it snaps to a perfect 90° angle.
